Is It Too Late To Start A Blog?

I told a friend of mine recently that I was going to start a blog. He laughed and said, “why bother nobody’s going to read it”. Instead of getting annoyed I sighed and said, “I guess you’re right”. “There’s way too many blogs out there anyway.”
Over the past few days I did a lot of research and found a blogger who just started in March. He now has thousands of readers and makes thousands of dollars a month. I do realize that is the exception. But if he can do it, why can’t I?
If you are one of lucky one’s reading this post, I am going to give you the link to this person’s journal. He inspired me in so many ways as he did 1,000′s of other people. I hope you do take the time to read his entire forum post. It is really long but has too much information in it to pass up.
I will be honest that I am a little afraid of giving the link in fear that you will never come back to this blog. On the other hand, when you realize that I am willing to share free and great information you will want to come back and maybe even sign up for my RSS feed

I’m guessing the reason your back blogging is to make money from digital point? It’s never too late to start a blog, but I think it is important to stick with it. Many bloggers like yourself start a blog then abandon it for another project. Then when they return to blogging they have to start over at scratch and gain back any readers they had.

Digitalpoint is a webmasters forum. I don’t make any money there, but I do learn a lot about Internet Marketing.
I don’t plan on making money from this blog. I do make money online through other projects though.
I did try blogging once a few years back but the hosting company I was with was very clunky. When I tried to switch hosts they locked me out of my domain and bought up the name when it expired.
After that I never planned on starting a blog again for exactly the reasons you said in your comment. How was I going to start over from scratch again?
I am going to put 100% effort into this blog. I am planning on posting between 5 – 7 posts a week and not over-doing it. I have been doing business online for over 14 years now and I feel like I have a lot of experience I can share.
I would say that now is an excellent time to get into blogging, as it is only just starting to become something that people outside of the internet world are using, and I can see it becoming so much more popular.
Tom. Thank you. That is a really good point. I sometimes forget that people haven’t been on the Internet forever.
I don’t think that it’s EVER too late to start a blog. So long as you have something interesting, genuine to say and you’re willing to be responsive/present in a conversation with other folks, then I’d say that you’re good to go!
Where new blogs fail (in my opinion) is that they don’t respond to the conversations that new visitors are trying to have with them. That’s a BIG mistake! Responding to comments and getting to know your readers is one of the quickest ways to amass a following. That and being consistently helpful.

I don’t think it’s ever hard to start but keep going. I know a lot of people who have blogged for a year and then suddenly disappear. Just keep working honest and hard at it, you should be fine. (And also pick a niche that no one has before.)

I don’t feel that it’s too late to start a blog, simply because the technology is there and available to anyone who wants to take the plunge.
The real question becomes “what are your goals for starting a blog?” If you plan to just hobby around and freely post what you feel is important to share then you’ll accomplish your goal rather easily.
On the other hand, if you plan to become a professional blogger, earning a decent salary for your efforts, the road will be difficult, but not impossible to navigate.
I’ve chosen the latter and will simply continue to build my business until success arrives and beyond. Pro blogging requires a firn commitment and a strategic plan, that if followed and consistently applied, will lead to success.
